WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
Visual Art is used to express our innermost feelings and to communicate ideas. The arts enrich, enhance and transform individual lives. Thus, an education in Visual Art changes attitudes which may transform the society on the whole. Visual Art include all objects created for visual appeal as well as those that serve useful purposes.
Pursuing a course in Visual Art prepares the student for jobs such as,
Architecture,
Fashion designing,
Interior and Exterior Designing,
Curator,
Cartooning and Animation,
Graphic Designing,
Sculpture,
Set Designing,
Book Publishing and Binding,
Photography,
Teaching and many more.
Job avenues for the Visual Art graduate include Advertising Houses, Printing Houses, Government Ministries, Educational Institutions and Entrepreneurships.
The Visual Art Program started in OWASS in the 2012/2013 academic year with only 30 students. Now, the department can boast of over 200 students and two working studios. The Department has the following subjects and a student is supposed to choose three:
1. General Knowledge in Art
2. Sculpture
3. Graphic Design
4. Picture Making
In addition the student is supposed to choose one of the following as a fourth elective;
5. Elective Mathematics
6. Elective ICT
Currently, Graphic Design alternates with Picture Making, and Elective Mathematics alternates with Elective ICT.
Furthermore, the department has and continues to enjoy pass rates of about 90% in almost all subject areas with many of its students in the country’s tertiary institutions, notably KNUST and UEW.
