WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
You are welcome to the science department of Opoku Ware School (THE SCHOOL). For the past 68 years, the department has been responsible for the production of the nation’s scientific professionals including doctors, pharmacists, engineers, biologists, chemists, physicists, research scientist etc. Our products have become the Akatakyie in all fields of scientific endeavours on the globe. We have made it our prime objective to train students to be hardworking, studious, ambitious, honest and God fearing and who aspire to serve humanity to the best of their abilities. We are still poise to continue our service to this great school and to our nation Ghana. We are waiting for that child of yours for whom you seek a great future. ABOUT THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
The Science department is the largest department in Opoku Ware School comprising of four sections, namely the Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Integrated Science. The Department is in charge of the General Science students. Our students offer two main elective subject combinations, that is
(i) Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Elective Maths and
(ii) Physics, Chemistry, Elective ICT and Elective Maths
The department is headed by Mrs Lydia Opoku Acheampong and she ably supported by the four sectional heads, namely Mr Daniel AsaforiBoadu (Physics), Mr. Kofi SekyiAppiah (Biology), Mr. James Ibrahim (Chemistry) and Mr. Johnson Yeboah (Integrated Science). There are a total of 46 teaching staff in the department. The teaching staff is supported by laboratory assistance and three cleaners. The department handles the General Science classes which comprise of twelve form 1 Sciences classes (Six in Gold and six in Green), twenty science classes in form 2 (ten in Gold and ten in Green) and nine form 3 science classes. The integrated science section handles integrated science for the entire school since it is a core subject.
